In Split, the 11,000-strong crowd in Spaladium propelled Croatia to two wins, including their biggest ever against neighbours Serbia in the opening match. They also defeated Iceland to book their place in the main round.
As EHF Secretary General Martin Hausleitner said: “People are really celebrating a handball party, which is the target of the EHF EURO. Moreover, our objective is to bring countries together and I also think that happened here. I was overwhelmed by what happened in this tournament, because you cannot go away out of this atmosphere, you feel the emotions.”
